PLO, PLO5 and PLO6 at Basepoker
Basepoker deals pot-limit Omaha three ways: PLO with four hole cards, PLO5 with five and PLO6 with six. On a busy evening the Omaha tables hold more players than Hold'em: we counted about 90 against about 60.
The tables
All three games run at the same nine stakes.
| Table | Stakes | Buy-in |
|---|---|---|
| Iron | $0.01/$0.02 | $0.50 to $2 |
| Steel | $0.02/$0.05 | $1 to $5 |
| Copper | $0.05/$0.10 | $2 to $10 |
| Bronze | $0.10/$0.25 | $5 to $25 |
| Nickel | $0.25/$0.50 | $10 to $50 |
| Silver | $0.50/$1 | $20 to $100 |
| Gold | $1/$2 | $40 to $200 |
| Platinum | $2/$5 | $100 to $500 |
| Diamond | $5/$10 | $200 to $1,000 |
The $0.02/$0.05 tables were the busiest, with 9 players in each of the three games, and a PLO5 game was running at $5/$10.
The rules in one paragraph
You make your hand with exactly two of your hole cards and exactly three from the board, and the most you can bet is the size of the pot. With more hole cards the winning hands get stronger and the swings get bigger, so the nuts matter more than in Hold'em.
Why Omaha
Many hands look playable in Omaha, so more players see the flop and the pots grow. That makes for lively tables. It cuts both ways: keep more buy-ins for Omaha than for Hold'em at the same stake. The full guide is PLO, PLO5 and PLO6 on Poker Cash Game.
